Ketamine Infusion Therapy in Bismarck, North Dakota
Ketamine Infusions FAQ
Have you been told by other providers there is nothing else they can do for you?
Have you tried mainstream oral medications &/or therapy and it didn’t work for you, you couldn’t tolerate the side effects or you only had short term partial improvement ?
If this describes you and you are tired of needlessly suffering, I encourage you to contact me to learn more about IV Ketamine treatment.
What is Ketamine exactly?
Ketamine was first synthesized in the 1960’s and is classified as an anesthetic, working on the NMDA receptor by blocking glutamate in the brain. It also acts on the mTOR pathway, the AMPA receptor and even opioid receptors in the brain. It has been safely administered by anesthesia professionals for over 60 years.
Ketamine is FDA approved for anesthesia use and is used “off label” for mental health conditions and outpatient chronic pain treatment. It is most likely never going to be approved by the FDA for indications other than for anesthesia (no matter how effective it is) due to it being a generic medication that is off of drug patent status.
What types of conditions can be treated with Ketamine?
Ketamine can offer rapid relief from the disruptive symptoms of mental health conditions such as depression, suicidal ideation, postpartum depression, mood disorders, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
It also offers an integrative approach to treating debilitating conditions that cause chronic pain like fibromyalgia, neuropathic pain, cancer pain, complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) aka Reflexive Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD).
How does Ketamine work for mental health and pain conditions?
Ketamine is thought to have dozens of pathways in the brain and body. Even though we do not know exactly how ketamine infusions work, we do know that ketamine increases neural connectivity and neuroplasticity in the brain. Glutamate helps neurons find new pathways to communicate with each other in your brain. This process is called synaptogenesis, and it’s thought to affect your mood and thought patterns.
Ketamine is also thought to reduce signals in your brain that are connected to inflammation. Ketamine works in several ways including on the opioid receptors. While simultaneously easing your sense of pain through its anesthetic properties and improving your mood and the way you think about things, thus alleviating feelings of depression and hopelessness.
How is Ketamine used in treatment?
I utilize low dose IV Ketamine based on your weight. The exact dose is calculated and titrated based on your response to treatment. The duration of treatment is determined during the consultation where the process is thoroughly discussed.
How effective is Ketamine?
Ketamine for treatment of mental health conditions including suicidal ideation has a published success rate from 50-72%, which is higher than conventional oral antidepressants.
